Strength for Life - Senior Fitness Classes in Perth
A structured, clinically supervised strength and balance program designed to help adults over 50 stay active, independent, and confident.
How Our Strength for Life Classes Run
Strength for Life is a structured strength and balance program endorsed by the Council on the Ageing (COTA), designed specifically for people aged 50 and over. The program focuses on progressive strength training and balance development to support independence, mobility, and long-term health, whether you are managing a chronic condition or simply want to stay active as you age.
Strength for Life addresses common age-related challenges such as reduced bone density, loss of muscle strength, decreased balance, and limited mobility. Participants attend supervised classes in a supportive clinical environment and receive a personalised exercise program tailored to their individual needs and health status. Programs are progressed gradually, with ongoing guidance provided to ensure exercises remain appropriate, safe, and effective over time.
Participants may attend up to three supervised classes per week, with sessions delivered by accredited exercise physiologists who provide hands-on coaching, exercise adjustments, and individual support throughout the class window. In addition to supervised sessions, each participant receives an individualised program designed to reinforce strength and balance improvements between classes.

A Personalised Approach to Senior Exercise
Strength for Life is a senior fitness and exercise physiology program designed for older adults from 50 years old through to 80 years old and over. The focus is on those who want to maintain strength, balance, and independence in everyday life. Delivered by accredited exercise physiologists, the program provides structured, supervised exercise in a clinical gym environment, supporting people to stay active, capable, and confident in day-to-day movement. At Revolv Health, Strength for Life is not a generic elderly fitness class. Every participant completes an individual assessment and receives a tailored exercise program based on their health history, physical capacity, and goals. Sessions are then completed within a supervised class window, with James, Tom, and the team available throughout to coach, adjust exercises, and provide ongoing support.
How Our Senior Fitness Classes Work
Strength for Life operates as a semi-supervised exercise class for older adults rather than a follow-along group workout. Participants attend during scheduled class windows and complete their own personalised program at their own pace, rather than performing the same exercises as everyone else. Before joining the program, each person completes a one-on-one assessment with an exercise physiologist. This session covers medical history, current activity levels, balance, strength, mobility, and any health conditions that may influence exercise selection. From this information, an individualised program is created and taught in detail, ensuring participants understand how to perform their exercises safely and confidently before transitioning into the group-based environment.
What Strength for Life Focuses On
The Strength for Life program focuses on building and maintaining strength and balance to support long-term independence and reduce the risk of falls. Strength training plays a central role, as maintaining muscle mass and force production is essential for everyday tasks such as standing up from a chair, climbing stairs, carrying groceries, and maintaining stability during movement. Balance training is also a key component of the program. As people age, changes in coordination, reaction time, and muscle strength can increase fall risk. Strength for Life addresses this by incorporating balance challenges alongside strength work, helping participants improve their ability to recover from missteps and move more confidently. The program is deliberately not structured as a high-intensity cardio or circuit-style class, instead prioritising controlled, well-coached movement that supports long-term physical function.
Who These Elderly Exercise Classes are Suited For
Our Strength for Life exercise classes are suited to older adults who want a safe, structured approach to exercise with professional oversight. Most participants are over 50, with many upwards of 80 years old, though the program can also be appropriate for people over 40 with medical conditions, mobility concerns, or balance issues that benefit from additional supervision. Participants range widely in ability, from individuals who are relatively active but want guidance and progression, through to those who are deconditioned, returning to exercise after illness or surgery, or managing conditions such as joint pain, osteoporosis, or reduced confidence with movement. No prior gym experience is required, and programs are tailored to each person’s starting point rather than expectations based on age.
How Strength for Life Fits Within Revolv Health
Strength for Life follows the same clinical approach used across all exercise physiology services at Revolv Health. The initial assessment process mirrors that of one-on-one exercise physiology, ensuring programs are built on a clear understanding of health history, lifestyle factors, and physical capacity rather than assumptions. Some participants use Strength for Life as their primary form of supervised exercise, while others combine it with private sessions depending on their needs. Programs are regularly reviewed and adjusted as strength, balance, or health status changes, allowing participants to continue progressing safely over time. The flexible structure means people are not locked into a rigid model and can increase or decrease supervision as required.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Strength for Life is not a traditional group fitness class. While sessions take place in a shared gym space, each participant completes their own tailored exercise program rather than following the same movements at the same time. This allows exercises to remain appropriate for individual health needs, injuries, and ability levels.
-
No prior fitness experience is required. Strength for Life is designed to meet people where they are, whether they are new to exercise, returning after a long break, or already active. Programs are adjusted to suit individual starting points and progressed gradually over time.
-
James, Tom, and the team are present throughout the session window, moving around the gym to coach exercises, make adjustments, and answer questions. While the program is semi-supervised rather than one-on-one, support is readily available whenever it is needed.
-
There is no fixed end point. Some people stay in the program long term as their primary form of structured exercise, while others use it alongside private sessions or transition between services as their needs change. Program length and progression are guided by individual goals and health considerations.
