VALD provide a suite of technology to measure and assess performance criteria, helping to guide training and exercise prescription with objective data.

What measurements are important?

We use several products from the VALD suite to assess various metrics with our patients here at Revolv Health. Some key key metrics include:

  • Peak and Rate of force development

  • Centre of stability

  • Ground reaction forces

  • Limb asymmetries

  • Range of motion

These can help to inform our exercise prescription around specific targets, goals, or discrepancies to enhance performance, restore or build function, and allow for improved clinically guided care.

What equipment do we use for taking these measurements?

In addition to many other tools we use for assessment, Revolv Health currently uses the following equipment from the VALD range with our clients:

A combined force dynamometer and goniometer, the Dynamo allows us to quickly and accurately assess strength and range of motion through most major joints in the body from head to toe. This information can be used to direct training or rehab, with immediate normative data comparisons for age and sex.

Force plates are used to measure a range of different variables for both basic functional tasks like balance and key markers for athletic performance. The VALD ForceDecks can be used to test both upper and lower body indicators of power and stability, with real-time data feedback for asymmetry and demographic normative data.

How does measuring all this help me?

With objective measurements we can identify discrepancies, weaknesses, or areas of potential concern and more directly target these with the exercises we prescribe to you!

  • Understanding key markers allows programming to be directed towards improving strength, power, or muscular endurance as required. This is frequently measured with aspects such as:

    • Rate of force development

    • Ground contact time

    • Antagonist muscle strength ratios

  • Accurately measuring any differences in limb strength, range of motion, or proprioceptive function provides useful information relating to how best to treat the current problem. This is often measured by examining:

    • Strength asymmetries

    • Range of Motion deficiencies

    • Peak strength

  • The information gathered from our assessments can also be useful in directing exercise prescription for improving overall health and performance. This can take the form of addressing any identified weak links to increase their overall capacity. Examples of useful metrics include:

    • Balance and centre of stability

    • Asymmetries in strength or rate of force development

    • Fatigue rates on repeat efforts

Who do we use this testing with?

Thanks to the versatility of the testing we can complete using VALD equipment we are able to use them with all clients to capture their results, allowing for data-driven progression to your exercises. Whether it’s pushing for peak performance in sport or training, guiding rehabilitation and recovery, or examining what areas to develop for a balanced approach to functional strength and wellbeing, the team at Revolv look forward to helping you work towards your goals!
